At 8pm, 4th June, 1924 the Hon Phil Collier (Premier of WA) launched radio in WA and 6WF (6WesFarmers) was born in the Wesfarmers' Building in front of about 500 people.
To hear 6WF then one needed a custom made receiving set (a closed box tuned only to 6WF) called a mulgaphone (mulga” of course is Aussie slang for “the Bush" and 200 mulgaphones were available) and a radio licence which cost £440pa when the average wage was £9.30s pa.
Now we are proud to announce a new development in WA Radio – RadioWA. We are using ""LPON" (low power open network) radio licenses to broadcast free to air in East Perth (and soon the Swan Valley and Rottnest Island) and our website to present interesting audio and audio visual pieces to the world.
No mulgaphone or radio license needed - all you need is a radio tuned to FM 87.6 inside our free to air transmission area or the internet and a computer, pda, iPhone etc!
Radio WA has a very simple business plan – if it’s not fun and it’s not about Western Australia we are not interested.
RadioWA presents great ideas for your next WA holiday – hot deals, discount and benefit opportunities for your next epic holiday or just great ideas for your next day or evening off – let us be your personal tour guide!
Using the skills I acquired at Central TAFE and the experience gained (initially) as the producer and (later) as the presenter for the afternoon show on Perths largest community broadcaster, I seek out and present interesting interviews, hot deals and fun opportunities to people lucky enough to be living in or travelling around Western Australia. You can just listen or you can download pieces you like to your computers, iPhones, mp3 players etc so you can take RadioWA with you wherever you go.
